Taking action
Young Black Americans have historically been underrepresented at the voting booth, resulting in the election of politicians who do not share their values and enact laws contrary to their interests. Black Millennials (ages 28 to 43) and Gen Zs (ages 12 to 27) primarily rely on social media for news. In this highly polarized political climate, disinformation spreads rapidly on these platforms, leading to greater disaffection and decreased civic engagement.
We produce the Why I’m Voting audio and video podcast to address challenges, share solutions, and disseminate impactful information across the internet. Each show hosts subject matter experts and social media influencers who discuss politics as it relates to the Black community. Professionals teach, dispel misinformation, and break down the quality of life issues.
Black citizens are also invited to share self-recorded video testimonials for why they are voting. Young Black celebrities provide facts about issues and encourage their followers to register to vote and make a plan to vote. The objective is to saturate the internet with positive messaging and refute disinformation. Our country and democracy become more just and equitable when all Americans participate in civic engagement.
